John Isiah Walton: Color Coded is on view in the Main Gallery from February 11 to May 13, 2023.

AcA galleries are open to the public Tuesday - Saturday, 9am-5pm & during Second Saturday ArtWalk each month.

This exhibition features a gathering of John Isiah Walton's most recent body of work which he hast titled "Black Paintings." A native New Orleanian, Walton keeps his home town and its own complex identities at the heart of his work.

He uses the medium of paint to reflect on his experiences of seeing New Orleans as both a vibrant and important cultural heritage site and a commercialized but shallow destination for visitors not unlike “Disneyland.” 

Hogwash is on view in the Side Gallery from February 1 to March 11, 2023.

Featuring a cast of more than fifty (mostly) non-professional actors from South Louisiana, Hogwash is the result of a highly collaborative production that was mostly improvised. Made on something less than a shoestring, every actor and crew member volunteered their time, resources, and imagination to make Hogwash the unique thing that it is

Our friends over at Basin Arts are proud to host Louisiana artists, Ben Koch and Alexis Lemoine, for a three-month residency to develop and present, GAY IN THE SOUTH, a community art project combining visual art poetry, photography, film, and performance art.

Saturday, February 11th, 12-4pm – Daytime Artwalk, attendees can volunteer to paint a community mural, contribute ideas in poetry, and get the first glimpse of the art installation in progress. Sign up here to paint

Basin Arts’ ProjectSpace Residency is a three-month residency that supports artists in their creative process while allowing that process to become visible to the community as the work unfolds into a full exhibition. 

This program is supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council, as administered by the Acadiana Center for the Arts. Funding has also been provided by the National Endowment of the Arts.

AcA's NXT Series brings you Bruisey Peets, Thursday, February 16, 7:30pm, presented by Rader

From swamp to shining swamp, Bruisey Peets (Ben Usie) has steadily evolved with his unique brand of queer swamp pop.
Equal parts earnest songwriting and performance art, Bruisey Peets shows are charmingly confrontational and subversively playful.

Originally from Lafayette LA, Usie lived in DC for 9 years where he leaned into the D.I.Y. ethos and house-show community while playing in bands such as Pree and Br’er. Since moving back to Louisiana in 2017, Usie has steadily evolved as a songwriter and band leader. 
With each new record, Usie explores deeper pockets of tradition, family, queer-reckoning, and what it means to be a cajun clown.
