From: Dance Camera West Film FestivalDance Camera West (DCW), the Los Angeles-based film festival committed to exploring the possibilities for dance in the context of cinema, announces the 22nd edition will take place on Thursday, January 25, through Sunday, January 28, 2024. DCW will return to Barnsdall Art Park’s historic Gallery Theatre atop its beautiful hilltop campus (4814 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027).
Dance Camera West 2024 will include a selection of over 40 films from 20 countries, carefully chosen from 320 submissions—all making their International, U.S., or Los Angeles premieres. In addition to the selected films in competition screenings, the 2024 edition will include workshops, artist talks, and receptions. Festival passes will be on sale December 1 (with a 30% discount before January 15, 2024) with access to all screenings, receptions, and workshops.
The Opening Night, on Thursday, January 25, will feature selected works from DCW's 2024 Guests of Honor, world renowned choreographers Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber's extensive body of film work.
The Closing Night program on Saturday, January 27, 2024, will feature a special presentation of the documentary Fenomenal!, Rompeforma 1989-1996, which chronicles the legendary performance festival of Latino artists, with the directors Merian Soto and Vivicea Vazquez in attendance, along with special guest artists featured in the film.
Sunday morning will feature a roundtable brunch discussion with the filmmakers partaking in DCW’s signature VISIBILITY program, funded by the California Arts Council KDACC grant, hosted by dance film artist and scholar Cara Hagen.
