On Saturday, June 21, rain or shine, the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM) central New Jersey’s only Black history museum will host its 4th Annual Juneteenth Celebration.

Held at the historic Mt. Zion AME Church and Reasoner/True House in Skillman, NJ, this vibrant, family-friendly event invites you to experience a powerful day of culture, creativity, and community. 

Highlights include:

Performances by the SSAAM Heritage Singers and Band

Spoken Word Performances

Vocalist and storyteller Keith Spencer

Luna Stage’s The Ground On Which We Stand

All-ages drum circle with Mr. Boom Boom

Read-aloud Story Corner and museum scavenger hunts

Story Booth to record community reflections

Local artisan marketplace

Launch of SSAAM’s Little Free Library of Banned Books

Featured Exhibition:

- The Head that Wears the Crown

-- Explore the beauty, history, and symbolism of African American women’s headwear, featuring pieces from SSAAM’s collection and striking portraits of community members in vintage church hats.
