Sunday, Nov 10, 2024 from 1:00pm to 1:30pm
Join us in the galleries at the Tampa Museum of Art for a gallery talk with Corinne Zepeda, an artist featured in the exhibition, Skyway 2024: A Contemporary Collaboration. Zepeda will talk about her art and the significant influence of her culture on her work. She will emphasize the importance of preserving traditional practices that have been handed down through generations and explain why these practices are regarded as "art" rather than just "craft."
Skyway 2024: A Contemporary Collaboration is a celebration of artistic practices in the Tampa Bay region, as it is a collaboration between five institutions: the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg; The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota; the Sarasota Art Museum of Ringling College of Art and Design; the Tampa Museum of Art; and the University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum, Tampa. Working together, curators from each institution offer context for the diversity of art being made in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota counties.
Tampa Based Seminole Artist Corinne Zepeda grew up in Naples, Florida with her multicultural family, and has been learning different forms of art from them since. Corinne's Skills have either been self taught or learned through watching family members. Corinne's passion for art comes from watching her father Brian Zepeda tackle many mediums of art when she was a young child. Corinne's work can include Digital Art, Beadwork, Textiles, as well as Basketry and Doll Making, all of which tell a different story.
Talks at the Tampa Museum of Art are free with the cost of Admission.
