Join Dutch artist Tripl, John “Crash” Matos, Martha Cooper, and Henry Chalafant, in a moderated discussion with Graffiti scholar, Edward Birzin for an in-depth conversation on the evolution of and global nature of graffiti art. This special panel brings together a unique blend of artists, historians, and pioneers in the graffiti world to explore how the art form has shifted from its underground roots to global prominence.
This panel will delve into the intersection of art, history, and cultural impact, discussing how graffiti continues to challenge norms and redefine urban spaces today. Expect a lively and candid conversation about the enduring legacy of Subway Art, Tripl’s recreation of that iconic work in Repainting Subway Art, the transformation of graffiti from a subculture to a respected art form, and the ways in which artists like Crash and Tripl are keeping the spirit of this vibrant movement alive.
Repainting Subway Art by Tripl, published by Ruyzdael Publishing will be available for purchase at the event. This program is in collaboration with WallWorks NY, A contemporary art gallery in the South Bronx, dedicated to bringing art back uptown. WallWorks will be opening an companion exhibition on April 5 featuring the work of Tripl.
