Project Dastaan’s animated virtual reality (VR) docu-drama “Child of Empire” invites visitors to step into immersive personal narratives of Partition, seen from the point of view of a young migrant child in 1947.
Visitors can use a VR headset to interact with “Child of Empire” every Thursday night during the program’s run. The VR experience is offered on a first-come, first-served basis in Tateuchi Gallery.
Project Dastaan (“story” in Urdu and Hindi) uses colorful animation and personal histories to recall the experiences of the 1947 Partition of India and Pakistan, one of the largest forced migrations in human history. This special presentation at the Asian Art Museum is Project Dastaan’s first gallery installation in the United States.
Content warning: “Child of Empire” includes depictions of violence. The VR experience is not recommended for children under 10.
Cost: Included with General Admission.
