Oddfellows Playhouse Junior Repertory Company is staging Coraline, adapted from the 2002 dark fantasy novella.
Coraline is a coming-of-age story that examines bravery, the drawbacks of always getting what you want, and the importance of found family. In a new home surrounded by eccentric neighbors and a nameless black cat, Coraline discovers a mysterious door that leads to an enticing (yet sinister) parallel world controlled by the Beldam (a button-eyed version of her own mother.) Coraline must navigate this “Other World” and save herself, her parents & the souls of other children trapped there before her “Other Mother” claims her soul, too! Coraline is brought to life by a cast of 16 young actors, ages 12-14, who make up the Junior Repertory Company.
Directed by Dan Schmidt, Coraline features music direction by David Brine, scenic design by Kayla Bucholz, costume design by Christian Milik, lighting design by Aaron Westcott, sound design by Joseph Getter, properties design by Pam Lang, and technical direction by Myke Halpin. The stage adaptation was written by David Greenspan with music by Stephin Merritt.
