He cut his teeth listening to James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Bonnie Raitt, and Mississippi John Hurt at local clubs — but also Cole Porter, the Gershwins, and Rodgers and Hart.
