it is late January 1995 and 12-year-old Firestorm  Gibbs’ homework is to write an essay about Black History Month.   The essay is to include detailed struggles, and triumphs of an audible African-American of his choice.  The individual selected must have contributed to society in a significant manner.
Fire storm is torn between MJ (Michael Jordan), the other MJ (Michael Jackson), or the third MJ (Magic Johnson).  He turns to his mother for a suggestion and what follows is the rich history of his own family.  Firestorm is incredibly surprised and excited at what he learns.  it is knowledge that changes not just the direction of his essay but his entire outlook at life!
