Elected officials, religious and community leaders will gather with LGBTQ+ leaders and residents, families and allies to honor the kickoff to Pride Month with a formal program, Pride flag raising and activities for all.
Greenwich Pride in collaboration with the Town of Greenwich is hosting an inspiring afternoon of programs and activities in support of honoring LGBTQ+ residents and our family and friends and allies.
Full speaker lineup announced closer to June 1. Leaders will share remarks, following by the reading of the Proclamation declaring June LGBTQ Pride Month and the Pride flag raising. Free ice cream truck, games, DJ and community tables in the field adjacent to Town Hall following the ceremony.
LGBTQ+ people are Greenwich residents, family members, friends, neighbors, doctors and lawyers, teachers and first responders, essential workers and artists, parents and students, and so many other important members of our town. The basic human rights of LGBTQ+ people, and transgender people in particular, remain under attack. The need for visible allyship and education about LGBTQ+ lives and experiences and the need for equal rights and safety for our community is paramount. Our young adults remain most vulnerable and deserve affirming and safe environments to be their true selves. Allyship is critical, as is visible leadership.
Pride Month is an opportunity for us to come together as a community, celebrate and commit to creating a more just, fair and safe town and society for LGBTQ+ people to survive and thrive.
As it reads in the Greenwich Pride Proclamation that will be read on June 1st, “The Town of Greenwich proudly supports the rights of every citizen to experience equality and freedom from discrimination. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) communities contribute to the cultural, civic and economic successes of the Town of Greenwich; and we as a society acknowledge the need for education and awareness to end discrimination and prejudice.”
