LEDC’s Art Committee invites you to join us at 20*20 House for Second Gen, an exhibition featuring diverse artists across generations. This upcoming show is a celebration of intergenerational dialogues, pairing works of established adult artists with those of emerging young creators. These juxtapositions offer visual conversations across time that honor both the mastery that comes with experience, as well as the raw, brilliant insight found within children’s boundless imaginations.
Traditional gallery spaces can often feel formal, antiseptic, and just a little out of reach, especially for families with young children who are inquisitive and prone to exploration. Second Gen takes note of this and reimagines the gallery experience, inviting visitors of all ages into a more intentionally welcoming space where creativity, curiosity, and thoughtful reflection coexist.
Second Gen is designed with inclusivity at its heart, bringing art works within “eye’s reach” of audiences (...regardless of stature), while also featuring interactive sculptures to physically engage visitors. The included children’s artwork is displayed at their own eye-level as a dignifying gesture meant to offer respect and recognition to contributing youth. Presenting works in this way is a simple effort to empathize with and affirm the creative voices of young artists by meeting them where they are.
Second Gen also acknowledges the many roles professional artists occupy in life: not only as makers but as parents, caregivers, mentors, and community members. It’s a place to find the swirl of a crayon next to a studied brushstroke, in which young artists are taken seriously, and where experienced artists are celebrated in their knowledge.
We recognize that all art deserves more than relegation to an odd corner, or merely being hung high on a fridge. The art of Second Gen is presented not only where it can be seen but where it can be connected with to engender a sense of pride.
Come to this unique gallery experience. Tap into the unbridled freedom of making art at the kitchen table, spend time playing with the included interactive works, and appreciate an exhibition that welcomes the whole family, meeting and engaging each member exactly where they stand.
