"Homecoming brings together 20 artists from the Greater Philadelphia Area whose work invokes the comforts and complications of LGBTQIA+ domestic life across intersectional and intergenerational perspectives. Each artist centralizes LGBTQIA+ experience in their work, carving space for themselves and their kin, by blood or chosen bond, to exist, thrive and survive.
This powerful and poignant collection weaves the heart of LGBTQIA+ ancestry through a lineage of intergenerational advocacy. Featured artists shed light on the nuances of queer domesticity, exploring themes of love, identity, family, history, justice and resilience within the context of their own unique lived experiences. This exhibition invites viewers to step into the intimate worlds, inviting them to be reflected and find a sense of home within its embrace. By centering LGBTQIA+ experiences and narratives, this exhibition invites us to reflect on our own understanding of home, family, and belonging, while celebrating the diversity and richness of the LGBTQIA+ community.
With Lansdowne being home to one of the largest LGBTQIA+ populations in Pennsylvania, it is only fitting that we bring together intergenerational queer artists to share their stories and perspectives through their artwork. In a time when political and social landscapes are constantly shifting, it is more important than ever to provide platforms for underrepresented voices to express themselves freely and authentically. This exhibition seeks to challenge normative narratives and confront societal expectations by offering a glimpse into the lives of LGBTQIA+ individuals who navigate a world that is not always welcoming or understanding. Through the power of art, we hope to inspire empathy, foster connection, and ignite conversations that promote inclusivity and equality for all.
Through this work, we are able to witness joy, raw emotion, and dissonances LGBTQIA+ people encounter in their quest to live authentically in a world that imposes adherence to the status quo. LGBTQIA+ people are here now, as we have been throughout all of time.
