Ludwig van Beethoven's cheerful Septet, written to delight audiences, was one of his most popular works during his lifetime. Two additional works, Alberto Ginastera's Impresiones de la Puna for Flute and String Quartet and Joan Tower's Island Prelude for Woodwind Quintet lean into lyricism, the latter having been inspired by Samuel Barber's beloved Adagio for Strings.
