Clean the Bay Day is an annual Virginia wide clean-up that’s been going on for over
three decades. This year’s Clean the Bay Day will be on Saturday, June 7 from 9am to noon.
Since it began in 1989, this Virginia tradition has engaged more than 165,000 volunteers who
have removed approximately 7.18 million pounds of litter and debris from across the
Chesapeake Bay Watershed in Virginia. Each year, on the first Saturday of June, thousands of
Virginians simultaneously descend on the rivers, streams, and beaches of the Chesapeake Bay
watershed to remove harmful litter and debris. A true Virginian tradition, it is an annual
opportunity for individuals, families, military installations, businesses, clubs, civic and church
groups to give back to their local waterways. To see locations near you and register for Clean
the Bay Day visit cbf.org/clean.
If you are looking to go one step further, become a Zone Captain! Zone Captains are
lead volunteers who oversee their cleanup site and other volunteers. They collect data (total
weight of debris, number of volunteers, etc.) to report back to their Clean the Bay Day partner.
You can volunteer as a Zone Captain during your registration. To learn more about being a Zone
Captain visit cbf.org/clean.
