Film Screening: Lowndes County and the Road to Black Power

Lowndes County and the Road to Black Power  is an award-winning documentary that tells the amazing story of the struggle for Black voting rights in Lowndes County, Alabama where local activists and young organizers from the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) fought one of the most dangerous battles of the Civil Rights era. Through first-person accounts and fascinating archival footage, the film brings to life one of the key moments in the struggle for Black political power.  The film was directed by Sam Pollard and Geeta Gandbhir.  Following the viewing, the audience is invited to join in a discussion led by TU faculty and students.  Refreshments will be served.
