Gustav Mahler

Symphony no. 9

The California Young Artists Symphony presents its final Capstone Event in its fourth season with an unforgettable evening of music at the legendary Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena. The program consists of a single monumental work: Mahler’s 9th Symphony. Written at the turn of the 20th Century, this profound work was Gustav Mahler’s final symphony and was thought by Leonard Bernstein to be “Mahler’s conscious farewell to the world.”

The performance is led by Maestro David Chan hailing from the New York Met Opera, Juilliard School, and Manhattan School of Music. Maestro Chan presence on the stage has been lauded as “polished and sublime.”

CYAS was launched in the fall of 2021 to the acclaim of audiences and artists nationwide. With musicians from institutions such as the Colburn Conservatory, the Thornton School of Music at USC, and the Herb Alpert School at UCLA (among many others), CYAS forms an electrifying ensemble rich in energy and expression.
