The Board of Directors of The Between the Lakes Community Service Players is proud to announce their partnership with the Ovid Fire Department to produce their 2025 Summer Musical Production of Something Rotten! A unique feature of The BTLCS Players is that each year a not-for-profit charity is selected to work with the production team to help promote and raise money and awareness for their organization and mission.
On January 21, 2025, a devastating fire in the main business block of the village of Ovid destroyed multiple businesses and displaced many residents. The Ovid Fire Department, along with many other agencies from across the area, battled the inferno for hours to bring it under control. Funds raised through this summer’s production will be donated to the Department for the purpose of replacing equipment.
Created by Grammy Award-winning songwriter Wayne Kirkpatrick, and successful screenwriters Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell, Something Rotten! was lauded by audience members and critics alike, receiving ten Tony Award nominations including Best Musical and hailed by Time Out New York as "the funniest musical comedy in at least 400 years". Set in the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as "The Bard." When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self, and all that jazz.
Directed by Tina Coville-Bauder, Something Rotten! features a wacky cast of over-the-top characters, each with their own moment to shine. Headliners Alec Targett as Shakespeare, Dan Papperman as Nick Bottom, Chamberlain Bauder as Nigel Bottom, and Jared Pratt as Nostradamus are joined by Ave Bauder, Chad Eastman, Andrea Puls, Julia Rogers, Mark Sinkiewicz, and Emily Suggs in key roles and a supporting cast of nearly 20 additional performers. With Charity Gillotti as musical director and choreography by Pam Bryan, Chad Eastman, and Tammy Papperman, this promises to be an exciting and entertaining show. Throughout its Broadway run, the musical received a show-stopping standing ovation from audiences... in the beginning of the first act! It’s become clear that “nothing’s as amazing as a musical” - don’t miss your chance to see this raucous, history-twisting tale.
The Between The Lakes Community Service Players will perform Something Rotten! on the Auditorium stage of the South Seneca High School in Ovid on July 24, 25, 26 at 7:30 pm. General admission tickets are $12, Student/Senior are $10. Advance sale tickets are available at www.zeffy.com/ticketing/something-rotten
