The Rapidan Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU), Graves Mountain Farm and Lodges (GMFL) https://www.gravesmountain.com/, and the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) https://dwr.virginia.gov/ are teaming to provide an exciting and educational day of free trout fishing on the Rose River just for kids. DWR heavily stocks the GMFL section of the river with trout and reserves the river for children ages 12 and under. Any legal tackle may be used and six fish may be kept. https://dwr.virginia.gov/fishing/trout/ For kids ages 13-18, fishing is available on a catch and release, artificial lures only basis in a stocked pond. TU volunteers will provide assistance on the river and at the pond.
Rapidan TU also provides hands-on fly and spin casting instruction, fly tying, knot tying demonstrations and instructions, and collection of aquatic insects from the river for viewing and identification. Kids’ Fishing Day is the primary event of GMFL’s Trout Heritage Day. Other concessions, exhibits, vendors, and activities are provided by GMFL. There are no admission fees or any requirement for pre-registration. Food is available for purchase.
